1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the onions and stir occasionally, until the onions soften.
  3. Add the cream cheese to the skillet and allow to melt.
  4. Once the cream cheese is melted, add the cheese and ham, and allow to combine.
  5. Pour into a baking dish and top with extra cheese and chives.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and started to brown. Serve with crackers or bread.
